Moving to the husband's house - Hungary
Although sanctioned by the Church, the marriage will not be acknowledged by the people until the bride has been asked for by and handed over to the best man. Those asking proceed to the bride's house where they encounter various obstacles. Bargaining and quarrelling ensues between the two wedding parties. After having solved a number of riddles, the party of the bridegroom is admitted at last, and the bride is given into their care, among festive ceremonies and much singing.
After the ritual of asking for the bride, she takes leave of her parents, relatives, home and girlhood. The farewell songs were originally sung by the bride, and later by the woman of honour or the women's choir. The original songs are nowadays replaced by verses taken from the bride’s best man's handwritten collection of verses.
