Audiences - Introduction

Audiences at Yiddish theatre performances consisted mainly of Yiddish speaking immigrants, many of whom came with their British-born children. For many immigrants, a night out at the theatre was a rare opportunity for entertainment and relaxation at an affordable price. There was a unique atmosphere with enthusiastic audiences joining in, singing along and even reminding the actors of their lines.
