People - Fanny Waxman (1878-1958)

Fanny Waxman migrated as a child from Poland with her parents in 1889. She began her career with the Yiddish opera and drama company in Vine Court and spent time in South Africa performing with her brother’s theatre company. She came back to London in 1903, and following a period acting on the English stage, returned to Yiddish theatre in 1910. For the next two decades she frequently performed on the continent and her company regularly performed at the Pavilion Theatre and in Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow and Dublin. She retired from the stage in 1930, following the death of her husband.
